Twilight Chiens is a retirement home for dogs. Dogs living with us have no other owners; we are their permanent caregivers. This privacy policy explains how we handle personal data when you contact us, donate, or use our website.
2. What personal data we collect and why
a) When you email us
If you send an email to info@twilightchiens.com (e.g., to ask about our services, share information, or request anything), we collect:

b) When you donate via check or direct funds transfer
If you send a donation by check or bank/wire transfer, we keep for tax and accounting purposes:

c) PayPal donations
If you donate via our PayPal button, you are redirected to PayPal’s website. We do not receive or store your personal data from PayPal. Please see PayPal’s own privacy policy.
d) Dogs’ names and photos
We keep the names and photos of dogs living at Twilight for identification, care, and memorial purposes.
e) Website security and spam protection (Wordfence & Akismet)
To protect our website from attacks, hackers, and spam, we use two security plugins: Wordfence and Akismet. These plugins may automatically collect and process:

- Browser type and user agent
- Timestamp of your visit
- Comment or form submission content (for spam filtering)
- Referring website (where you came from)
Purpose: To secure our website against malicious activity and prevent spam comments or form submissions. This is necessary for our legitimate interest in running a secure website (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

– Email inquiries: Deleted after 1–2 years, unless they lead to an ongoing relationship or legal/administrative need.
– Donor records (checks/transfers): Kept for as long as required by French tax and association laws (typically 10 years).
– Dog names and photos: Kept indefinitely as part of the dog’s history at Twilight.
– Security and spam data (Wordfence/Akismet): Data is retained automatically by these plugins. Wordfence keeps security logs for up to 30 days. Akismet keeps spam submission data for up to 15 days. For exact retention periods, please refer to their respective privacy policies linked above.
4. Who has access
Only Leeanne and Michael Whitley (the operators of Twilight) have access to stored personal data. We do not share or sell your data to any third party, except as described above for Wordfence and Akismet (which process data on our behalf as data processors).
